Victor, Colorado

Banjo picking in Victor cemetery

The cemetery at Victor is one of my favorite places in Colorado to sit, breathe and enjoy the beauty of the Rockies. Here is my husband enjoying the peace and entertaining the ghosts by picking a few songs on his banjo.

Victor was founded in 1891 when gold was discovered in Teller County. By 1899 the population had swelled to 18,000 and the city was devastated by a fire. Gold mining decreased during the 20th century until in 1962 there were no operating mines. However, the Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mining Company opened in 1976 and is still mining gold today.
